This academic year has been jam packed full of sporting activities and one as a school we are extremely proud of. We have been heavily involved in another season of football fixtures week after week. Chadwick entered into the ‘Blackpool School Games PRU Football League’ this was a competition for our U14’s to enter. This was a lovely sunny day at Leyland FA where 4 school teams competed to win an on the day tournament. Chadwick managed to gain 7 points from our three fixtures leaving us joint top. To decide who won the title it was decided a penalty shootout would test our pupils. After the opposition missing their first two penalties and Chadwick scoring 1 out of the first 2, the pressure fell onto pupil and goalkeeper for the penalty shoot-out Joe Smith, who dispatched the ball superbly to give Chadwick their first taste of glory for this academic year. PE teacher Mr Colquhoun said, ‘It was an excellent day one that I know the pupils will remember and talk about for a while, they worked extremely hard as a team in very hot weather and got their rewards, well done to all the pupils.
Chadwick’s next event of the year was the ‘Harvey Cup’. This is a cross country run which is 2.5 miles in total and takes place at a fantastic school called Oversands. This run was a KS4 and KS3 event meaning you could bring a team from each key stage. We put together a very strong KS3 team and set off on the motorway towards Grange. Each team could have a max of six students, with the top four students from each school counting towards the final result. The school with the lowest points from their top four runners would win the trophy. Chadwick were represented by Joseph Smith, William Staig, Josh Elsworth, Nathan Grant and Brendan Mcmenamin. As the students set off for the race the PE staff of Mr Colquhoun and Mr Smith made their way to the finish line to cheer on the students for the sprint finish. After waiting around 13 minutes the first student started to appear in the distance in a white t shirt, low and behold it was Chadwick’s very own Joe Smith! Joe managed to finish 1st for the whole event and took home his own trophy for being the first male to finish in the KS3 run, congratulations Joe! Not too far behind was Josh Elsworth in 4th place, behind him was Will Staig in 5th place and very close to him was Nathan Grant in 7th place and topping of a superb team effort was Brendan Mcmenamin in 15th place. These low scores gave Chadwick their second piece of silverware for the year and topped off another tremendous event hosted by Oversands. Well done to all the students!
Joe Smith winner of the KS3 race. Well done Joe!
Our next event was another football tournament, this was hosted by Brambles School at play indoor football arena in Preston. This event was for our ks3 team and consisted of 9 different schools. We managed to again, win yet another tournament thanks to excellent team morale. PE teaching assistant Gavin Smith said, ‘The pupils had to work continuously hard throughout the day, there were times when they didn’t win every game but to hear the pupils supporting each other and their encouragement was brilliant’. Chadwick finished the tournament unbeaten which was a magnificent achievement.
Our next challenge again took us to another football tournament called the ‘Yates Trophy’ hosted by Moorbrook School. The tournament consisted of 9 teams therefore there was 8 games to play for each team. Chadwick boasted an excellent record of 6 wins 1 draw and 1 loss. Our results meant that we were tied for 2nd place along with Brambles school. Fortunately for us we booked our place in the final by having a better goal difference in comparison to Brambles.
This meant it was Chadwick vs Larches for the Yates Trophy. The game finished 2-1 to Larches meaning we were runners up for the tournament. Mr Colquhoun said ‘the boys performed excellent throughout the day, I thought we had the better chances in the final but we just weren’t clinical enough and there was some fantastic saves from the Larches goalkeeper, congratulations to them and we will be back.’
Chadwick will be involved in more activities and tournaments before the year is finished, so check back here soon for further updates and pictures.
Many Thanks,
Mr Colquhoun & Mr Smith
