Curriculum Intent
The aim of the Geography curriculum at Chadwick High School is to create awe and wonder about the Earth, its landscapes and the people that live in it. Geography allows young people to understand the processes that have shaped our world and how people interact within it.
Through our sequenced KS3 Geography curriculum, students will develop their geographical skills, including locational skills, analysis and problem solving. We aim for our students to be able to identify connections between different aspects of the subject thus developing a sense of place, a deeper understanding of economic activities, natural earth processes and to recognise that different people use and perceive their worlds differently.

Reading and Vocabulary
The use of language is a vital part of learning geography and good literacy skills are important to allow geographical understanding. It is through language that students understand geographical concepts, develop their geographical thinking and communicate geographical ideas. As part of a whole school drive, we complete ‘Reading week’ activities with all students every half term.
British Values
Democracy – Pupils are expected to have respect for fellow students and encourage everyone to have the confidence to express their ideas and opinions regarding geographical issues such as pollution, environmental issues, and globalisation.
Rule of Law – Pupils examine different codes for living and consider the value of the rule of law where all people are equal before the law. Pupils will be given the opportunity to consider the impact of law in different countries and when reviewing topics such as climate change.
Individual Liberty – Pupils will explore their own individual liberty in terms of exploring their own career paths within Geography. Pupils can also explore the lives and environments of people living in different countries can have and the effect on their liberties.
Tolerance and mutual respect – Pupils can consider questions regarding how different cultures live and work throughout the world. Pupils could explore, how areas have changed and how the diverse needs in society have changed them. Pupils are taught and encouraged to show respect to each other’s beliefs, feelings and opinions by giving each child a forum to share these on with the expectation that these must be listened to.
